From the disease... to the Melody of Alzheimer's

The Caravan of Memory

The population is aging. In France, nearly 1.2 million people

suffer from neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's, that cannot be cured.

This project develops the implementation of a complementary alternative therapy

based on the power of Music and Movement.

The first results to be released were remarkable, and led to the implementation of two-parts project,

composed of training and research,developed in 15 different places in France

with the collaboration of Inserm 1093 scientists, and ABB Reportages in charge of filming.

If the conclusions are positive, this project will lead to a scientific publication that will guide us to

a change in the way we care for and look after at the elderly.

The project is composed of 4 types of actions:

- A training in therapeutic Tango

- Tango workshops (music and dance)

- A research project

- An audiovisual keeping track of the entire process

The project in Argentina

The project in Argentina

The training is given in partnership between the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon (SEFCA)

and the Maimónides University in Buenos Aires.

The workshops take place at Nuestra Señora de Belén

and San Diego nursing homes in Vicente López.

In Buenos Aires, at the Dinzel Studio where Eric Dinzel welcomes us,

carefully listening to "Impression Tango", by Graciane Finzi.

At Ituzaingó, with "Impression Tango", Graciane Finzi accepts José´s invitation and executes her first dance steps.





Last Friday at the CETBA (Center for the Education of Tango of Buenos Aires),

students in Music listened carefully to Graciane Finzi's piece "Impression Tango".

Thank you to Eric Dinzel for welcoming "The Caravan of Memory."

Hopefully, we can start analyzing the power of Tango on the elderly in Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires on May 31, 2017

On Wednesday, May 31 at the Alliance Française in Buenos Aires,

in the presence of Eric Bourland, scientific advisor for the French Embassy in Argentina,

Caroline Coll, director of the Alliance Française in Buenos Aires,

Jorgelina Benavidez, director of the Ineco's department of music therapy.

and passionate debate between Anne Bramard Blagny, documentary's author,

Lucas Sedeño (INCYT, Ineco),

Danilo Spada, Danilo Spada research engineer LEAD-uB-CNRS, from Italy

and María Eugenia Couyás, Psychology graduate, tangotherapist and Tango dance teacher.

A full house, a real success,

The meetings come one after another during our stay to develop a new stage of the project

that will take place during the week of September 11th.

International cooperation

Students from France, USA and Argentina

get involved

Students from the Burgundy School of Business (France), Ohio University (USA) and UCA (Argentina) get involved.

Together, they lay the foundation for a GCP (Global Consulting Project)

where UCA continues the development of the project in Buenos Aires

In the series "Alzheimer's Allegros", with France Mourey

I was born in 1955. I graduated as a physiotherapist in 1976.

From 1981 to 2009, I worked at the geriatric pool of the University Hospital of Dijon (Pr Michel Gaudet & Pr Pierre Pfitzenmeyer)

as a health executive in charge of a geriatric rehabilitation team.

I have acquired an important clinical experience and I have carried out many applied research works,

in the field of frailty, balance disorders of the elderly, falls and post-fall syndrome.

My doctoral thesis, defended at the Université de Bourgogne, focused on the effects of ageing on posture and movement,

with a particular analisis of the sit-stand and stand-sit transition .

My current work focuses on implicit motor learning of elderly patients with cognitive disorders.

Friday 6th September in the morning, at Rosener House,

measuring walking speed of the participants of "The Caravan of Memory"

France Mourey's team, Inserm researchers, will scientifically analyze the changes

observed between the first and the last workshops.

But the team, the caretakers and the volunteers go through the second step of the Caravan,

without waiting for these results.

A new start is imminent. October. Some patients remain in the project, new ones join it.

And so do volunteers…
